A resolution that would put a tax levy on a future ballot for emergency medical services in Washington County, was denied at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday. While the topic has been on the agenda for multiple meetings over the past year, the Supervisors feel that they have been left in the dark on certain information with the EMS advisory board. Supervisor Jack Seward Jr. shared his thoughts on how the matter has been handled so far, “Well I would just like to point out that in these discussions on the EMS levy, we’ve discussed it several different places at several different times, that we have concerns and our concerns have not been answered. So I can’t see, I cannot vote for approving a resolution that was presented by EMS council. And if that means we are going to have to delay it, we’ll have to delay it. We’ve had conversations with attorneys, and those guys know what they are talking about. We need to get together with the EMS council. The EMS council can come to us and say we want a work session and then all five of us can sit there and hash this thing out. The other alternative that has always been there is that the EMS council can extend and ask if a couple of guys from the board of supervisors come and visit with us. I know they did that with the Fire Chief, I know they did that with the City Administrator.” The Supervisors denied the resolution, and have reached out to the advisory council for all of the meeting minutes that they have, so they can be better informed on how the tax levy number was reached.
