A tradition is back this afternoon at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman when the Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams host longtime and former conference rival Solon in a Saturday Showcase doubleheader on KCII. The Golden Hawk girls are 7-0 after a 66-58 overtime win at West Liberty Friday when Brooklyn Schneider scored 23 on six threes and Brylee Gearhart had an 18 point, 12 rebound double double. Mid-Prairie is ranked No. 15 in Class 3A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Hawks score 65 per game and give up 36, shooting 38% from the floor, 26% from three and 68% at the line with 42 rebounds, 22 steals, 17 assists and 19 turnovers per night. Individually, Callie Huber leads at 13 points and 10 boards per game. Jeorgia Evans has four steals per night and Katelyn Harland four assists.

Solon is 3-4 on the year and 2-3 in the WAMAC after a 58-44 loss at No. 12 Center Point Urbana before Christmas. The Lady Spartans average 48 points per game and give up 47, shooting 37% from the floor, 30% from three and 61% at the line with 29 rebounds, 12 assists, eight steals and 16 turnovers per game. Individually, Delainey Durr leads with 13 points per night. Beckett Kruse has seven rebounds and Kobi Lietz four assists and two steals. Solon has won nine of the last 12 in the series with Mid-Prairie’s last win in 2011.

The Golden Hawks boys are 7-0 after a 63-61 road win at West Liberty last night behind Bryce Henry’s 20 points, his fifth straight game hitting that mark, and Ace Peck’s 17. This year the Hawks score 72 per game and give up 45, shooting 44% from the floor, 35% from three and 73% at the line, with 37 rebounds, 15 assists, 10 steals and 13 turnovers per game. Individually, Ace Peck and Bryce Henry are both averaging 23 points per game. Brady Weber has four assists per game and Peck three steals per night.

Solon is 3-3 this year and 2-3 in the WAMAC after a 54-51 loss at CPU to end 2024. This year, the Spartans score 53 per night and give up 51 on 39% shooting, 26% from three and 52% at the line with 31 boards, 12 assists, eight steals and 15 turnovers per night. Individually, Caleb Bock scores 11 per game with nine rebounds and two assists. Solon has won 12 of the last 13 in the series with the Hawks last win coming in 2009.
