Iowa’s drought conditions held steady to end the year. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, as of December 31st, 2024, 1.3 percent of Iowa was in severe drought, 57.33 percent was in moderate drought, 79.84 percent was abnormally dry. At this time, most of Washington County is abnormally dry. All of Jefferson County is without drought conditions, as is most of Keokuk County. All of Louisa County is abnormally dry, and the eastern half of Henry County is abnormally dry. The southern portions of Iowa and Johnson counties are abnormally dry with moderate drought in their northern sections. While 20.16 percent of Iowa is currently without drought conditions, at this time last year only 2.77 percent of the Hawkeye State was experiencing no drought conditions.
