The date for the contest court reviewing the election results of the Highland Community School District’s bond measure has been rescheduled. Washington County Attorney Nathan Repp announced the contest court has been moved back five days to Monday, January 20th at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
The contest court is being held after a petition was filed challenging the election results. The initial election results showed the $15 million bond issuance passing with 61-percent of the votes in favor. It was then discovered that some of the voters in the Ainsworth precinct were given the incorrect ballots, as not all of the voters at that location reside in the Highland School District.
The contest court will consist of Ron Greiner, Dan Ruth, and Richard Gaumer. Greiner is representing the petitioners contesting the results. Ruth serves as Vice President of the Highland School Board. Gaumer is a retired attorney. The three-person court will oversee the trial and the Auditor’s Office will serve as Clerk of Court for the proceedings.
KCII News will bring more information as it becomes official.
