The WACO Warriors continue to roll in girls’ basketball after they defeated Iowa Valley 51-35 Thursday night and earned a sixth straight win.
WACO jumped out to a 25-7 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back. Brenna Graber led the team by scoring 17 points, while fellow sophomore Madelyn Farmer had 10 points to help the Warriors improve to 8-3.
The WACO boys fell Thursday at North Linn 60-40, but they hung tough early with the defending Class 1A state champions, only trailing by seven after one period. The deficit grew to 12 points by halftime and would stay there going into the final quarter, where North Linn closed the game on a 14-6 run.
The loss ends an eight-game winning streak for the Warriors, who are now 8-2. Both WACO teams play this weekend against their long-time rivals from New London and both squads are first in action this coming week Tuesday at Pekin.
