The Winfield-Mt. Union boys and girls basketball teams hosted Louisa-Muscatine Friday night in a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader. The WMU boys secured an 82-60 win. A fast start propelled the Wolves, they led 24-8 after one and 49-27 at half. The two teams played even at 33 each after break. WMU shot 44% as a team, won the glass by 13, dished out 26 assists and had 20 steals. Jake Edwards led the scoring with 20 point 11 assist double double. Max Edwards finished with 18 points and eight boards. Lane Genkinger had 14, Cody Milks 12 and Nick Sparrow 11. Player of the game Max Edwards joined the KCII postgame show live Friday to talk about the win.

WMU is now 7-4 overall and 7-2 in league play as L-M falls to 5-7.

The girls contest went to the Falcons 48-37. The Wolves had to play catch-up after a slow start, down 16-7 after one, but WMU climbed within 27-24 at half. The Wolves tied the game twice after break but couldn’t get over the hump, down 36-33 after three, before the Falcons put together a 12-4 run that spanned the full fourth quarter to secure the win. WMU was led by an 18 point night for Kynlee Buffington. Madisen Kellogg added 11. L-M improves to 4-8 overall with the win, 3-6 in conference as Winfield-Mt. Union drops to 2-11 this year, 1-8 in league play.
