It’s a busy stretch of the schedule for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys wrestling team. The Hawks traveled to Northeast Goose Lake Thursday for a River Valley Conference quadrangular with Bellevue, Camanche and the home Rebels. The Golden Hawks got a win over Camanche 36-24 but fell to Bellevue 36-30 and Northeast 42-30.
Three Golden Hawks were unbeaten on the night with Max Howe collecting two pins in his three wins and Mason Howe and Tommy Miller one each. Max Kipp, Josh Turner and Burke Berry each went 2-1 with Turner and Kipp recording two falls each and Berry one. The 1-2 night left Mid-Prairie with a 4-12 dual record this season.
Tonight, the Hawks travel to Center Point-Urbana to meet North Linn and the home Stormin’ Pointers. The Golden Hawks have one ranked wrestler in their lineup with Berry No. 12 at 285lbs in the latest Class 2A poll from Iawrestle.com. Max Howe has the team lead with 17 wins. Joining him with double digit wins this season are Mason Howe, Turner, Miller and Berry. Berry has the lone individual tournament title this season, winning the championship at New London earlier this year.
North Linn has a 7-5 dual record. They were last in action at the Benton Tournament where they placed 16th as a team, led by a sixth place day for Tate Woods at 150lbs. Jacoby Peyton at 190lbs leads with 16 wins. Trevor Kaut at 157 has 15 victories.
CPU has a 4-12 dual record. They were at the BGM Tournament Saturday, finishing third, led by individual championships for Jackson McGonegle at 106lbs and Aiden Ortega at 157. The Pointers have one ranked wrestler in their lineup with McGonegle No. 12 in Class 1A. He’s the team leader with 23 wins. Caden Steinkamp is next with 17 victories at 120lbs. Mid-Prairie beat both of these teams in 2023 at this event.
