It’s a pair of all-KCII area contests tonight in Columbus Junction when the Hillcrest Academy Raven boys and girls basketball teams visit CJ to take on the Wildcats. The Raven boys are 11-1 on the year, 8-1 in the Southeast Iowa Superconference, after an impressive 68-52 home win Saturday over Keota where Seth Ours led with 24 points. This season, the Ravens score 67 points per game and give up 41, shooting a 1A best 53% from the floor, 32% from three and 63% at the line with 27 rebounds, 18 assists, 11 steals and 11 turnovers per night. Individually, Ours is best at 16 points per game, Mason Bender has six boards per night and Rowan Miller leads the floor game with six assists and three steals.
The Columbus boys are 5-7 on the season 3-6 in league play after a 57-53 win over Lone Tree. This season the Wildcats score 48 per night and give up 63, shooting 34% from the floor, 26% from three and 53% at the line with 30 rebounds, 11 assists, six steals and 22 turnovers per game. Individually, Ellis Hills-Carrier goes for 16 points and three assists per night. Juan Chairez averages seven rebounds and Ryan Coil two steals per game. Hillcrest has won 32 straight in the series, including an 80-28 victory in December this season.
The Columbus girls are 11-2 this year and leading the Superconference at 9-1 after a 51-44 win over Lone Tree Friday where Lily Coil put up 15 points. This season, the Wildcats score 52 per game and give up 36, shooting 31% from the field, 26% from three and 50% at the line with 32 rebounds, 19 steals, 12 assists, and 15 turnovers per game. Top ‘Cats include Coil’s 15 points and nine rebounds per game. Ariana Vergara has five steals and four assists per night.
The Raven girls are 5-7 this season, 3-6 in the Superconference. They dropped a 55-51 contest to Keota Saturday where Malia Yoder had 22 points. On the year, Hillcrest averages and gives up 49 points per game, shooting 33% from the floor, 26% from three and 48% at the line with 35 rebounds, 15 steals, 11 assists and 25 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Claire Withrow’s 17 points, Delaney Shaw’s 10 rebounds and Malia Yoder’s five steals and four assists per game.
