The Washington Demons took down Centerville last night 45-35 in girls’ basketball. Washington closed out the first quarter on a 10-4 run to take a 12-6 lead, and an 8-3 run to finish the second period sent the Demons into halftime up 20-14.

After hitting three three-point shots in the first half, Washington would get a pair from beyond the arc in short order to start the second half on a 10-5 run and go up double digits. The Demons entered the final quarter up 36-29 and never led by less than six points on their way to ending a four-game losing streak.

Freshman Reagan Miller hit three of their three-pointers and scored a team-high 14 points for Washington, while junior Adalyn Long finished with nine points and sophomore Sarah Berdo and junior Addison Miller had seven each.

After the game, Demons head coach Shannon Rugg told KCII Sports that his squad seems to have found its rhythm for the first time in the new year.

“You could just see their confidence is growing, and they understand where their shots are coming from,” Rugg says. “The ball movement was great. We were talking, both offensively and defensively. It was just a great team effort.”

With the win, Washington improves to 4-9. The Demons next play Friday at Keokuk. You can catch Washington Demon basketball on KCII Friday evening starting with pregame coverage at 5:30 on 106.1 FM and streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII1 app.
