The state ranked Iowa City Regina Regals boys and girls basketball teams brought their brooms to Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman, and left in first-place in the River Valley Conference, sweeping the Hawks in a doubleheader matchup of undefeated league teams. The girls contest saw the Hawks lead most of the night, but the No. 3 Regals completed the comeback 59-49. Regina was on top 8-4 in the first, but the Golden Hawks strung together seven straight to get the advantage and led 14-12 after one and 28-24 at half. The score continued to favor the Hawks until the final two minutes of the third. Regina put together nine straight points to go up 43-41 going to the fourth, and parlayed that into a 20-6 run in total for the win. The Regals won the turnover battle 20-14 and outrebounded the Hawks by seven. Caitlin Martin led Regina with 16 points, Ella McLaughlin had 14. The Golden Hawks got 14 points and eight boards from Callie Huber, 10 points and eight boards from Brylee Gearhart, five assists from Katelyn Harland and three steals from Jeorgia Evans. Regina stays atop the conference at 6-0, 11-1 overall, Mid-Prairie is 4-1 in league play and 8-3 on the season.

The boys game saw the No. 13 Regals build an early lead and keep Mid-Prairie at arms length much of the night in a 62-51 win. The Regals used an 8-0 first quarter run to take momentum and go up 17-13 after one and a 10-2 second period sprint gave them a 32-25 lead at the break. The Hawks would pull within five midway through the third quarter but would get no closer. The Regals won turnovers 11-8 and beat Mid-Prairie on the glass by nine. Will Litton led Regina with 19 points and 13 boards, Tate Wallace had 13 points and Drew Greve 10 to lead the Regal attack. The Hawks got 32 points from Bryce Henry, his ninth straight game with 20 or more. The win for Regina gives them sole possession of first place in the RVC at 6-0 and an 11-1 record as Mid-Prairie falls to 4-1 in conference and 9-2 overall. The Golden Hawks are in action Friday when they travel to Tipton.
