Authorities have reported that a phone scam is occurring in Louisa County where a person has cloned a Louisa County Sheriff’s Office phone number. The person is calling local residents from the number 319-523-8326. The sheriff’s office states the person is impersonating personnel such as the sheriff, chief deputy, and sergeants.
Sergeant Kary Conger states that one victim was scammed out of $6,000. The victim received a call and was told the person worked for the federal government and that the victim had several loans taken out in their name. A second call from the same scammer was also received, and in a subsequent call the person alleged to be a member of the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office. The victim reported the incident to local authorities. Conger explains it is believed that the fraudulent caller has looked up current and past law enforcement personnel to try to persuade victims for scams.
If you receive such a call, report it to the authorities using the Louisa County non-emergency number 319-523-4371. The sheriff’s office will not request personal information or money over the phone.
