Both Sigourney Savage teams earned home basketball victories over Colfax-Mingo last night. The Sigourney girls rolled to a 55-22 win over Colfax-Mingo, grabbing an early lead and never giving it away on their way to a third straight victory and improving to 6-3 in the South Iowa Cedar League and 8-4 overall.
The Sigourney boys dominated in an 86-47 win over Colfax-Mingo, building on an early nine-point lead with a 27-9 run to close out the first half going up 52-25. The Savages were coming off an equally convincing 80-48 win over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont the night before.
A two-point lead after one quarter was stretched to 35-25 at the half, but Sigourney put the Rockets away by outscoring them 45-13 in the second half. Senior Isaac Bruns led the Savages with 25 points scored against Eddyville while hitting 12 out of 24 shot attempts and also collecting eight rebounds.
John Berg added a double-double for Sigourney with 17 points, 14 rebounds and five steals, while fellow junior Solon Yates had 16 points. Four straight wins for the Savages have them at 8-4, including a 5-4 record in conference play. Both Sigourney squads next play Friday at HLV.
