The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys wrestling team is back on the mat tonight in Anamosa for a River Valley Conference meet with Cascade, Maquoketa and the home Blue Raiders. The Hawks are 4-14 on the dual season after dropping both contests at Center Point-Urbana Tuesday to the home Stormin’ Pointers and North Linn Lynx. The Golden Hawks have one ranked wrestler in their lineup with Burke Berry No. 12 at 285lbs in Class 2A according to the latest poll from Iawrestle.com. Max Howe is the team leader with 17 wins. Mason Howe, Josh Turner, Tommy Miller and Berry all have double digit victories this season. Berry has the lone weekend tournament championship, winning gold at New London earlier this year.
Cascade has a 3-15 dual record this year. They were last in action at the Delhi Tournament Saturday where they finished 10th of 10 led by runner-up for Brock Morris at 132lbs. Morris is the lone ranked wrestler in the Cougar lineup, checking in at No. 4 in Class 1A at 132. He is the team leader with 20 wins, followed by 14 for Cason Rausch at 215lbs.
Maquoketa is 1-10 on the dual season and last wrestled Saturday at the Northeast Goose Lake Tournament where they were seventh of nine led by championships for Dalton Miller at 144lbs and Matthew Michel at 150lbs. Top performers for the Cardinals include wins leader Spencer Martin 22-6 at 157lbs followed by 19 wins for Tayden Howell at 106, and 17 for Ryker Henderson at 215.
Anamosa is 15-4 on the dual season and last competed Saturday at the Benton Tournament, finishing 10th of 17 schools, led by Hudson Scranton’s championship at 150lbs. The Blue Raiders are ranked No. 6 in the latest Class 2A team dual standings from Iawrestle.com and have four ranked athletes in their lineup including Hudson Welton No. 12 at 126lbs, Scranton No. 1 at 150, Ayden Antonelli No. 3 at 175 and Austin Scranton No. 2 at 190lbs.
These teams did not meet last year due to weather. In 2023, the Hawks beat Cascade 57-18, Maquoketa 48-34 and lost to Anamosa 42-39. Action starts tonight at 5:30p.m. At Anamosa High School.
