The Washington County Public Library Association reported strong numbers to the Supervisors on Tuesday with growing usage across the three county libraries. At the Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting, the Library Association gave their annual report and funding request. Washington Public Library Director CaryAnn Siegfried and Cary Geno, Director of the Wellman Public Library, presented the report, “Usage of our libraries is increasing. One of the cool things with our Apollo circulation system is that we can see how much our residents saved by borrowing rather than by buying. Just if you are looking at rural residents, they saved $413,236.45. That is just rural residents. If you look at our total circulation for materials throughout the county, I believe that the total is well over a million dollars.” The funding request from the Library Association did increase from the previous year, and the Supervisors advised that the Association may not see that increase. The request was in the amount of $159,000, the previous funding allocation was for $156,750, an increase of 1.43% from last year’s budget.
