The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams packed their brooms for a Friday road trip to Tipton, coming home with a pair of River Valley Conference victories, moving both squads into second place in the league standings. The Golden Hawk girls were a come-from-behind 60-50 winner. Mid-Prairie rolled early, with a 15-4 run to start the game, they led 19-11 after one and 38-23 at half. The lead would grow to 17 early after intermission before an 18-4 Tipton run that lasted the rest of the third, pulled the Tigers within three going to the fourth. Tipton’s charge continued in the final frame, leading them to a brief one point lead at 44-43, the Hawk’s response was swift. Mid-Prairie scored the next 11, leaning on their senior centers, Brylee Gearhart and Callie Huber to seal the win. Gearhart, Golden Hawk of the Game joined the KCII Postgame Show live to talk about their work late.

Mid-Prairie shot 51% on the night, won rebounding by eight, turnovers 25-17, had 16 steals and 15 assists. Gearhart finished with a dozen points, Huber 11 with six boards, Jeorgia Evans had five steals. The Golden Hawks are 9-3 overall and 5-1 in the RVC as Tipton drops to 9-4 on the year and 4-2 in conference.
The nightcap was all Golden Hawks, all the time in a 78-42 road runaway. Mid-Prairie started quick on offense, leading 22-15 after one, but hit another gear in the second quarter, scoring 16 in a row to open a 25 point advantage at half, 46-21. Still up 23 after three, a 15-7 run by the Golden Hawk reserves enacted the running clock and closed out the win. Mid-Prairie won turnovers 20-7, finishing with 12 steals, dishing out 15 assists and winning turnovers 20-7. Five Hawks got to double figures led by Ace Peck’s 19 point night, with four threes, four rebounds and three steals. Peck, the Golden Hawk of the Game, joined the KCII Postgame Show live to talk about the win.

Bryce Henry and Brooks Weber each scored 13, Henry had six boards, Brady Weber had 11 points and five assists and Kaden Kos 10 points and five boards. Zach Butler led Tipton with 19 points. The Golden Hawks climb to 10-2 on the year and are 5-1, alone in second place in the RVC. Tipton is now 7-5 and 4-2 in conference. The Hawks are back in action Tuesday when they host West Branch.
