lone-tree-3

The Lone Tree Lions finished off the week by sweeping a home conference basketball doubleheader with Wapello Friday night. The Lone Tree girls jumped out to a 16-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and were still up by 11 points at halftime.

But the Lions’ 23-9 run to start the second half is where they seized control of what would ultimately be a 63-37 victory, their seventh win in the last eight games as they improve to 9-3 in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and 11-3 overall.

The Lone Tree boys’ team found itself in a tight contest, only leading 39-37 at halftime and being tied with Wapello at 58 going into the last period. But the Lions had more in the tank on offense and would hold on to win 79-71.

Domonic Garcia scored a game-high 24 points and had four steals to lead Lone Tree, while fellow junior Reece Holbrook had 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Junior Gray Spillman added 14 points and four rebounds, while sophomore Owen Eden had 11 points off the bench to help the Lions raise their record to 4-7 in the Super Conference North and 4-8 in total. Both Lone Tree teams next play tomorrow against WACO.
