The Washington County Board of Supervisors heard a report and funding request from the Washington County Fair Board at their most recent meeting. Washington County Fair Board President Kurt Dallmeyer reported on the fair, highlighting the enrollment numbers, “I’d like to start it off, last year we were number one in enrollment in the state, and we got beat out barely, so we are now tied for number two in the state with enrollment. And that is something that we are very, very proud of. To see number one is Polk County, you know, first of all that’s Des Moines, we fall in number two which is Woodbury County which is Sioux City, and then you got Delaware, Plymouth, and then you look at the others, Story which is Ames, Warren is Indianola.” Over the last year the board was able to replace over 100 lights on the fairgrounds from incandescent with LEDs. This will help with energy costs, as well as providing more light for nighttime activities. One of the plans for the future will be updating the show barn on the fairgrounds, the board is in the very early stages of kicking off this project, and will be getting more information out to the public in 2025. The funding request was for the amount of $41,000 and will be decided upon by the board at a later budget meeting. This amount is the same as was requested last year.
