Income thresholds seem to be a struggle for those seeking assistance through the Veterans Affairs County department. Washington County Veterans Affairs Director Carrie Rich gave the quarterly report to the Washington County Board of Supervisors, “For the second quarter we had four total applications. Two for rent, one for utilities and one for a funeral. The funeral one is pending. The two for rent and one for utilities were both denied due to income, and the funeral one will be taken care of as soon as we get all the bills for it.” The Washington County Commission of Veterans Affairs provides assistance to Washington County Veterans and eligible family members. County assistance with the following is available, subject to the eligibility guidelines, rent payments, utilities, food and provisions, transportation, burial assistance, and grave markers. Any questions about eligibility should be directed to the Veterans Affairs Office.
