washingtondemons-2

Another week ends with Washington Demon basketball on KCII as Washington travels to meet long-time conference rival Fairfield tonight. Both Washington teams are hoping to generate some momentum heading into the end of the regular season, with the girls at 4-11 and the boys still looking for their first win of January.

The Demon ladies have lost six of their last seven and are 2-4 in the Southeast Conference. Despite a stingy defense that gives up less than 43 points per game, Washington is hoping to get more offense to pair with junior guard Adalyn Long and her team-high 11-and-a-half points per contest.

Head coach Shannon Rugg tells KCII Sports that, even if the scoreboard isn’t always in their favor, the Demons are a group that makes the other side earn it every game.

“I like this group,” Rugg says. “They play hard, they show up to practice every day with a great attitude wanting to get better, and I’ll take this group of girls over any team we play all year long.”

While the girls’ team faces a winless Fairifield squad, the Washington boys come in having lost five in a row overall to drop to 3-3 in conference play and 5-8 in total.

As they face a Fairfield side with an identical record, the Demons are hoping to get more consistent offense alongside senior Logan McDole and junior Drew Conrad, who lead the team in scoring and are combining to put up 22 points a game.

Head coach Collin Stark says, while his team waits for the ball to go in the bucket on a more regular basis, they need to dig down deep and find other ways to win.

“When our shots aren’t falling,” Stark says, “we have to have something defensively to push back. To win basketball games, you have to do the tough things, [like] that fight [and] that desire to compete.”

Both Washington teams got victories over Fairfield when the teams met earlier this season. You can catch both games as the Demons visit the Trojans in the latest edition of Washington Demon basketball on KCII, starting with pregame coverage at 5:30 this evening on 106.1 FM and streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII1 app.
