The Highland Huskies will host Sigourney in a non-conference doubleheader Monday for the KCII Area game of the week. Both girls squads have winning records. Highland is 12-5 and 8-5 in Southeast Iowa Superconference. In their last game, they defeated Wapello 53-37 on Friday. The Huskies have won three of their last four games. For the 2024/2025 season, they average 51 points per game and allow 45 points per game. They are third in the conference for points scored and fifth for points allowed. They lead the SEISC North for most assists per game at 14, rebounds per night, hauling in 45 and have the most blocks per game, at four per contest. The Huskies get 16 steals per game, which is the second best in the SEISC. They shoot 32% per game, which is the third best in the conference. They have the second best three point percentage at 25%. From the foul line, they shoot 48% on the season. Highland’s leading scorer is freshman Kamryn Fink who averages 16 points a game.
The Sigourney Savages are 12-4 on the year and 8-3, first place in the South Iowa Cedar League East. They have won seven straight. Sigourney averages 58 points a game which leads the SICL. They lead the SICL in rebounds with 32.2 and assists with 11.6. They are second in the SICL in steals 14.6 and blocks at 1.9 respectively. In the shooting department, they have the best field goal percentage in the league with 36.6%. They shoot 25% at the three point line. The Savages shoot 61.4% at the free throw line, which is the best in the SICL. They are led by the duo of senior Josphine Moore and freshman Brynn Clarahan. Moore averages close to 20 points per game and Clarahan 18.
The last time these two teams played each other was January 22nd, 2024, Sigourney got the win 46-39 with Carly Goodwin scoring 16 points.
On the boys side, Highland comes into this game 1-13 and 1-11 in the Superconference, hoping to end their 10 game losing streak. On Friday they fell to Wapello 56-50. For the season, they are averaging 44 points per game. They are hauling in 26 boards and 4.4 dimes per contest. They are top 5 in the Superconference North in steals, 8.8 and blocks, three, per game. They have a 35% field goal percentage and 51% at the charity stripe. From the three point line they average 21%. For the year, they are led by the junior Bryce Hazelett, who scores 15 points a game.
The Sigourney boys are 10-5 on the year and 7-4 in the conference. The Savages are coming off a loss to Waco last Thursday night, 62-49. Before that loss, they had won six straight. For the season, they average 64 points per game, which is the second best in the South Iowa Cedar League East. They allow 52 points, which is also second in the SICL. They are top in the SICL in every major category that includes rebounds, 33, assists, 14 and blocks, 3 per game. Their 43% shooting percentage is second best in the SICL, as is their three points percentage at 28%. The Savages lead the SICL with a 59% free throw percentage. Leading the way for the Savages this season is Issac Bruns who averages 18 points per game.
Sigourney won the last game in 2024, 64-29, led by Issiac Brun’s 19 points.
