National Catholic Schools Week is held from January 26th through February 1st, and St. James Elementary School in Washington will be participating. Schools typically observe the week with Masses, assemblies, events and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members. St. James Principal, Erik Buchholz spoke to KCII about the overall theme of the week, “Our theme is based on the fruits of the spirit, and comes from the bible verse Galatians 5:22 through 23. Each one of our rooms doors are decorated with one of those fruits of the spirit. Really looking forward to it, it’s always a great week.” Festivities begin on Sunday, January 26 with mass at 9 a.m. followed by brunch at 10 a.m. When school resumes on Monday, St. James alumni will visit and have a chance to speak with current students. Tuesday’s event is Prayers and Pancakes from 8:10-9:30 a.m. A children’s mass highlights Wednesday at 8:25 a.m. Thursday, St. James will hold a family night supper at 5:30 p.m. with activities to follow until 7 p.m. Finally, Friday’s activity is a wrap up event for a penny war fundraiser taking place all week. St. James aims to use the week to celebrate its parish, alumni, community, students, families, and the world.
