A Riverside man convicted of second-degree murder in 2011 has died. According to a press release from the Iowa Department of Corrections, 84-year-old Thomas Lee Hansen of Riverside, was pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22nd at the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center. Hansen was found guilty of fatally shooting his girlfriend, Sharon Gerot, May 1st, 2011, while she was mowing their lawn. Hansen had been serving a 50-year prison term, which began on Feb. 1, 2013.
