With the warm weather hitting Washington County, ice is starting to melt and anglers should take notice. According to the Iowa Department of Resources, Lake Darling has about 1 inch of ice, but it’s in pretty bad shape. As of January 30th, the hole kept open by geese is getting larger every day. In Lake Darling, there are currently about 4-5 acres of open space.

The Iowa DNR reported that anglers are having a lot of success catching bluegill. They have also had some success with crappies. However, most of the crappies are biting at night.
