Washington County Engineer will be replacing a rural Riverside bridge. Beginning Wednesday, February 12th, Tupelo Avenue will be closed north of Riverside to replace an aging bridge. The contract for this project was awarded to Iowa Bridge and Culvert, L.C. of Washington, for $278,674.00. Work is expected to take two to three months to complete, weather permitting. The existing bridge was constructed in 1966 and is being replaced with a buried bridge. The new structure will have concrete foundations with a steel arch-shaped structure, and will be the first of its kind in Washington County. The project will eliminate the existing bridge which currently has a weight restriction and a narrow width. The new bridge will allow for easier travel throughout the area. The county is using Federal Highway Bridge Program funds to pay for this project.
