Most schools are in session from Monday through Friday. Keota Community School District is not like other schools, they work four days and have a three-day weekend. Keota made this change last year, and according to Superintendent and High School Principal, Lisa Brenneman it is going well.
“That has been something that has worked very well. It will be interesting to see where our scores end up. Because we have really focused on Friday being the day when kids don’t have school. As an administrator, I love the time to work with the teachers collectively as a group, so we all move forward to create a culture of learning and keep it going and motivate kids together. It also gives time to address any issues that they have and personalize education. When you’re going to school five days a week and they have 45 minute prep periods, you don’t have a lot of time to work with them. We really feel like we have accomplished a lot with our students this year and the kids love the four day week”.
Keota Community School has thrived this year. Keota had their test scores announced and they went from towards the bottom of the South Iowa Cedar East League (SICL) in 2023 to the top in 2024.
Superintendent and High School Principal Lisa Brenneman has been at Keota since the beginning of the school year in 2023.
