Local high school basketball will be buzzing the next two nights with the return of the annual Southeast Iowa Super Conference Shootout, and three area girls’ teams will look to earn wins over South division opponents from across the conference.
That includes the Highland Huskies, who are set to take on hosting Holy Trinity Catholic this evening. Highland is 15-6 and went 11-5 in the Super Conference North this season behind freshman phenom Kamryn Fink, who is averaging almost 16-and-a-half points, 15.5 rebounds and three steals per game.
The Huskies will be facing a Holy Trinity team that is 13-6 in the second half of a doubleheader in Fort Madison. The first game of the night will pit the WACO Warriors against Central Lee.
WACO went 10-6 in conference play and has a 12-8 overall record, with sophomore Brenna Graber leading the team by scoring over 13 points per contest and senior Ella Huisenga doing a little bit of everything by putting up nearly 10.5 points, seven rebounds and two assists a game. The Warriors collided with a Central Lee squad that is 10-10.
Tomorrow night, the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves will take the floor in Riverside and meet winless Cedar Valley Christian. Despite a 4-16 record and a 3-13 mark in the Super Conference North, WMU is playing its best basketball of late with two wins in the last three games.
Freshman Kynlee Buffington has been a breakout start for Winfield-Mount Union with team-high averages of nearly 13.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. The Wolves will tip things off at 6 p.m. tomorrow, while the doubleheader featuring WACO and Highland begins this evening at 6 o’clock at Holy Trinity Catholic.
