superconference-2

The Southeast Iowa Super Conference Shootout continues tonight with boys’ basketball games, and four local teams will look to get wins against the South division.

That includes the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves, who will face Mediapolis in Pekin. WMU has a record of 11-8, including an 11-4 mark in the Super Conference North.

Senior Jake Edwards leads Winfield-Mount Union by averaging nearly 19 points, four rebounds, five-and-a-half assists and five steals per game, while the Wolves’ defense has also been excellent, allowing just under 47.5 points per contest. WMU will be facing a Mediapolis team that is 12-8.

The Lone Tree Lions will travel to Letts to face Danville. Lone Tree is 6-12, including a 4-11 conference record, and has been paced by junior Emmett Burke, who puts up 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists a game. The Lions have also gotten nearly 13.5 points per game from junior Reece Holbrook and will try to beat a Danville team that is 8-13.

The Columbus Wildcats will get to spend the Super Conference Shootout at home when they host Van Buren County this evening. A loss to the Warriors on January 20th started a five-game losing streak that Columbus is currently facing as they come in at 6-13.

Sophomore Ellis Hills-Carrier does it all for the Wildcats, averaging almost 16 points, 5.5 rebounds and three assists per contest. Columbus will get a second crack at a Van Buren squad that is 5-14.

The Highland Huskies will also get a home game against a familiar face in Cedar Valley Christian. Highland is 1-17 but has gotten consistent scoring from junior Bryce Hazelett, who pours in almost 14 points a game.

The Huskies are looking for redemption from a 53-44 loss they took earlier this season to Cedar Valley Christian, which is 7-11. While Highland and Columbus will tip off tonight at 7:30, Winfield-Mount Union and Lone Tree will start their games at 6 o’clock.

KCII will bring you coverage of this year’s Super Conference Shootout Finals tomorrow when the Lone Tree Lions meet Danville and the Columbus Wildcats collide with Mediapolis in the girls’ games, while the WACO Warriors meet Burlington Notre Dame and the Hillcrest Academy Ravens take on West Burlington in the boys’ contests.
