The Washington County Sheriff’s Office secured funding from the county opioid fund to use for part of their new phone application. At the most recent Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting, Washington County Sheriff Jared Schneider presented the request to the board, “Since late fall we have been working on getting a Sheriff’s app for the Sheriff’s Office. Still kind of, some of it is still under development, but it is out there for the public right now. During the process, some of the other counties that were coming on board were asking to use opioid funds to pay for the Sheriff’s app, we initially looked at commissary funds, room and board money and some forfeiture money to help pay for the app. When that conversation got brought up with other counties using that, we started kind of considering that, and then I had a conversation with Richard about possibly using opioid funds to pay for the app.” The free app is available to android and IOS users, and includes features such as submitting a tip, jail information including an inmate search, a list of registered sex offenders, and a page of community resources.
