The WACO Warriors swept their final home basketball doubleheader of the regular season last night against Van Buren County. While WACO jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first quarter, Van Buren County closed that gap down to two points by halftime.

But the Warriors started the second half on a 17-9 run to go back up double digits and went on to win 44-38. Sophomore Brenna Graber and senior Ella Huisenga scored 14 points each to help WACO improve to 14-8.

The Warrior boys turned a one-point deficit after a quarter of play into a 36-26 lead by the half, and they would push their advantage to 19 points by the time the final period started on their way to a 76-58 victory.

Senior Isaac Rich had 16 points to lead WACO, while Hayden Shelman came up with 12 points and fellow sophomore Holden Hughes and junior Christian Stacy finished with 15 points each. The win raises the Warriors’ record to 16-5.

While the WACO boys will play later tonight at Wapello, up next for the Warrior girls is their first-round postseason contest against Burlington Notre Dame.
