Louisa County Sheriff Brandon Marquardt recently quantified the work his office was involved in for 2024 with numbers released through their social media page.

The LCSO was involved in 10,281 dispatched calls in 2024, roughly 28 per day. Between the sheriff’s office, Columbus Junction Police Department and Iowa State Patrol there were 492 arrests involving authorities from or in Louisa County, working out to just over one per day.

In 2024, 773 total charges were issued by those three entities including 101 felonies and sentences, and 86 aggravated misdemeanors, the rest fall into serious or simple misdemeanors and civil call categories.

The office’s K9 unit was deployed 451 times in the previous calendar year, including 120 patrol deployments, 109 indications, and 222 environmental deployments including rooms, items, vehicles and schools, resulting in 57 seizures, and 39 arrests. The K9 discoveries included drugs like methamphetamine, cocaine, MDMA, marijuana, psilocybin, and prescription drugs, and the K9 even found a concealed human.

Louisa County authorities issued more than 1,600 citations, warnings, document orders and services combined.
