
The Columbus Wildcats ended the boys’ basketball regular season with a 66-54 loss at Louisa-Muscatine. Columbus fell behind 18-13 at the end of the first quarter and would not be able to rally, trailing by six points at halftime and having that deficit doubled going into the final period.
Senior Juan Chairez had a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Wildcats, while sophomore Ellis Hills-Carrier finished with 10 points and three steals as Columbus falls to 6-15 and finishes play in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference this season with a record of 4-12.
The ‘Cats now gear up for the postseason, which will begin Monday night with a first-round matchup with Holy Trinity Catholic in the Class 1A Substate 4 playoffs.
