The first large-scale winter storm of the year visited Iowa Wednesday and caused scheduling issues for local construction crews. According to information from the Washington County Roads Department, the scheduled replacement of the bridge northeast of Riverside on Tupelo Boulevard is now postponed until next week. The official date for the start of work has not yet been set.
The existing bridge was constructed in 1966 and will be replaced with a buried bridge with concrete foundations and a steel arch-shaped structure. This design will remove the weight and narrow width restrictions of the current bridge. This will be the first bridge of this type installed in Washington County. Cost for the project is roughly $275,000 with work expected to take 2-3 months to complete.
