The Highland Huskies extended their boys’ basketball season by defeating Rivermont Collegiate 57-52 Friday night in a Class 1A Substate 4 play-in game.

Highland’s one-point lead at home after one quarter became a tie game at 22 by halftime, but the Huskies used a 16-6 run to end the third period leading 40-34, and they would fend off Rivermont down the stretch.

Junior Bryce Hazelett led Highland with 15 points, six rebounds and three steals, while senior Louis Horak added 13 points, five rebounds and two steals to extend the season for the 2-20 Huskies. Highland advances to face top seed North Linn in the first round of the Substate 4 playoffs Monday evening.
