The Washington Demons got it done in their final home game of the boys’ basketball regular season, knocking off Burlington 65-58 Friday night. Washington finished the first quarter on an 11-2 run to take a 16-13 lead, but Burlington answered back with a 13-3 run to close out the first half leading 33-31.
The two teams went back and forth in the third period, with a layup by senior Luke Schiebel putting the Demons ahead 48-46 going into the final quarter.
It would be a 14-6 run to start the fourth that put them in control, with an old-fashioned three-point play from senior Logan McDole capping off Washington’s finishing push and pushing the advantage to double digits with two minutes to play.
McDole finished with a team-high 13 points for the Demons, while sophomore Nic Stone hit three three-point baskets and had 12 points off the bench. Senior Conner Leyden added 11 points for Washington and head coach Collin Stark, who told KCII Sports after the game his team played unselfish, high-level offense.
“Especially in the fourth quarter,” Stark said, “I thought we really shared the basketball extremely well. I think that’s when this team is at their best, when they’re sharing that basketball, and it showed.”
A fourth win in the last seven games means the Demons improve to 9-11 and finish Southeast Conference play this season at 5-5. Washington next plays Tuesday at Mount Vernon.
