Corn growers in Iowa are encouraged by Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig to use an online tool to inform nutrient application decisions this growing season. The Nitrogen Fertilizer Application Consultation Tool, or N-FACT, provides farmers a platform to input field-level production variables and it then recommends optimal nitrogen application rates. The recommendations aim to balance productivity, environmental stewardship, and input costs.
N-FACT debuted at the Iowa Ag Expo in Des Moines earlier this month. The Iowa Nitrogen Initiative is led by Iowa State University. The tool uses thousands of data points from hundreds of field trials that were conducted by ISU in each region of Iowa.
N-FACT is a free resource and can be found here.
