As the mats roll out this week at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines for the 2025 Iowa High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Championships, five teams from the KCII listening area will send athletes to compete. 

It was a big day at districts Saturday for the WACO Warriors who qualified three grapplers for State with district titles at Pleasantville including Ian Maize at 106lbs, Gage Samo at 120 and Louden Huisenga at 190.

The Highland Huskies will have their own trio in the state capital this week. Landon Bell at 106lbs, Cash Cole at 113 and Tyler Pierson at 132 all got through the Wilton district tournament as runners-up.

The Washington Demons will send Aaron Boone at 132lbs to State after his runner-up finish Saturday at the district tournament at Williamsburg.

It was second place and a spot at State for Sigourney-Keota’s Owen Menke at 285lbs at Pleasantville.

The Lone Tree Lions’ representative at State is Brock Nebergall who advanced through the district tournament at Wilton Saturday as the runner-up at 120lbs.

The Class 1A and 2A State Wrestling Championships are held Wednesday through Saturday of this week at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. You can hear updates on local athletes twice an hour all four days on AM and FM KCII, and find them available free on our website at KCIIradio.com.
