The Columbus Wildcats and Highland Huskies had their boys’ basketball seasons come to an end with losses Monday night in the first round of the Class 1A Substate 4 playoffs.

Columbus fell at Holy Trinity Catholic 81-37, facing a 21-11 deficit by the end of the first quarter and seeing that margin swell to 19 points by halftime. Ellis Hills-Carrier scored a team-high 14 points for the Wildcats, while fellow sophomores Drake Marin and Fritz Figaro had eight points each.

Columbus ends the season with a record of 6-17. The ‘Cats will be losing four seniors to graduation, including Ryan Coil, Juan Chairez, Mason Heck and Cael Howell.

Highland was beaten at North Linn 89-24, falling behind 37-2 after a quarter of play to the defending state champions. The season comes to a close for the Huskies with a mark of 2-21, with eight seniors slated to depart next year, including Logan McFarland, Jared Diaz, William Dunbar, Brixton Rust, Louis Horak, Colten Sypherd, Brody Miller and Angel Avendano.
