
Both Columbus and Lone Tree are moving on in the girls’ basketball playoffs after getting wins last night in regional quarterfinals, with the Wildcats defeating West Burlington 48-28 in Class 2A Region 2 and the Lions topping Holy Trinity Catholic 55-36 in Class 1A Region 7.
Columbus jumped out to a 14-4 lead by the end of the first quarter and continued to dominate on defense, stretching their advantage to 26-6 at halftime. Lily Coil led the Wildcats with 15 points scored and three made three-point baskets, while fellow senior Frannie Sosa had 14 points as Columbus improves to 18-4. The ‘Cats now move on to face Danville in the 2A Region 2 semifinals Friday.
Lone Tree’s victory is their 18th in the last 19 games as they raise their record to 20-3. The Lions will now meet the Sigourney Savages in the 1A Region 7 semis.
