Two local bowling teams competed at the Class 1A Boys and Girls State Qualifier meet Monday at Champion Bowl in Bloomfield.
The Sigourney-Keota girls bowling team will send a duo to State next week. SK sophomore Sophie Young finished as individual runner-up with her 575 day including a second game high score 228 to qualify. Senior Jayden Montgomery will join her after finishing third with a 567 tournament a high score second game 214. Kameryn Taylor of Louisa-Muscatine was the individual champ with a 585. Sigourney-Keota was third in the team scoring with a 2219, L-M won the overall title at 2921. Other SK scores included Kaylie Montgomery 553, Addison Richardson 447, Calli McCoid 345 and Grace Gillam 304.
The Washington girls were seventh with a 910 team total. Two Demons shared top honors on the day with Brittany Diveney and Shae Fleming each rolling 323s and Emma Loeffler finishing at 319.
The Sigourney-Keota boys bowling team will send Landyn Greiner to State. Greiner, a senior, finished fourth overall with his total of 637, including a high score second game 246. Jackson Bieri of Louisa-Muscatine was meet medalist with a 720. SK was third in the team race with 2727, including 584 from Wells Clark to place 10th, 539 from Liam VanVoltenberg, 510 from Owen Clark, 473 from Caden Meyer and 435 from Aidan Greiner. Durant won the team title with a 2955.
The Washington Demons were fifth of seven schools in the team chase with a 2386. Top Demon was freshman Mitchell Zieglowsky at 571 with matching 193 scores in his second and third games to place 11th. Other Washington scores included Kelton Burke 531, Mason Catenaccio 436, Cooper Zahs 420 and Robert Fleming 389.
The SK trio of Young, Montgomery and Greiner advance to the 2025 Class 1A Individual Championship Meet Monday in Waterloo.
