A tradition that began in 1960 is being held at Hillcrest Academy with their chili supper on Saturday. Director of Advancement Jeremy Ours shares what’s on the menu, “The chili supper is a fundraising meal that the seniors host, it consists of chili soup, these cheese-spread sandwiches, sort of like a pimento cheese sandwich, potato salad, pie, ice cream, and other desserts. And then it also includes a Mexican soup pozole and all the fixings that go with that, that was a soup that we added several years ago.”
The soup supper is a fundraiser for the senior class. Funds raised are used to assist with the senior class trip to Washington, D.C. Ours explains what the senior students take away from this, “You know all of the history and our U.S. government is there, and there’s a lot to learn in that city. So it should be a valuable experience I think for all of those. The class will fly to D.C., you know some of these kids may not have flown before, so that in of itself might be an experience for some.”
The chili supper is open to the community in the Hillcrest Academy gym this Saturday from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the door and are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $6 for children 4-12, and free for children 3-years old and younger.
