The Sigourney Savages and Winfield-Mount Union Wolves both had their boys’ basketball seasons come to a close with losses in Class 1A district semifinals Thursday night.

Sigourney lost to Montezuma 53-49 in District 9. The Savages trailed 28-17 at halftime and were down by as much as 16 points in the second half, but they would rally to get back with a point in the final minutes before Montezuma fended them off to hold on for the victory. Sigourney has their season end with a record of 16-7. The Savages will now say goodbye to seniors Isaac Bruns and Cain Weber.

Winfield-Mount Union fell to Burlington Notre Dame 66-40 in 1A District 8. The season finishes for the Wolves with a mark of 14-10. WMU will lose five seniors to graduation, including Jake Edwards, Lane Genkinger, William Cupps, Cooper Buffington and Sinjin Brown.
