The season came to an end for Washington Demon boys’ basketball last night with a 72-50 loss at Fort Madison in the Class 3A Substate 6 quarterfinals. After being in a tie game early, Washington was on the wrong end of a 16-0 run that Fort Madison used to finish the first quarter leading 21-5.
The Bloodhounds would remain in front by 16 points by the time halftime rolled around and led by as much as 26 in the second half, ending the Demons’ season with a record of 9-14. After the game, head coach Collin Stark told KCII Sports that he was proud of the Washington seniors.
“People ask ‘How would you describe this senior team,’ and I just thought selfless,” Stark said. “There’s so many of those guys that they just did what was asked to help the team.”
One of those seniors, Logan McDole, led the Demons by scoring 23 points, while junior Rajan Roth added 10. Washington will lose seven total seniors to graduation, including McDole, Conner Leyden, Cole Vetter, Luke Schiebel, Seth Shepherd, Oliver Hobscheidt and Colby Mullens.
