During a tremendous final season for the Mid-Prairie girls wrestling team, Ashlee Farrier finished her career climb to 100 wins. Farrier found her first career win as a freshman December 13th of 2021 with a pin of Highland’s Jaydee Macareno in 1:17. She put together an 11-9 record in her first season and made her first appearance at the State Tournament in Coralville, finishing with a 1-2 record.
As a sophomore Farrier went 32-12. Her junior season featured a 29-7 overall record and her 50th career win, November 20th of 2023 at the West Branch Tournament with a fall in under a minute over Briley Kaalberg of the home Bears. Farrier made her second career appearance at State, after finishing third at SuperRegionals. At Xtream Arena she put together a 2-2 tournament.
Farrier’s senior season featured a 33-3 overall record. She hit the 100 win mark January 13th of this year at West Branch, with a pin of the home Bears Karley Shelton in just over 90 seconds. Farrier spoke with KCII Sports in January about the accomplishment.
Farrier said, “When I was wrestling the match, I wasn’t really thinking about it. Then when I was coming off the mat, there were a lot of people there who made a special trip just to watch me. It was fun! I had a little crown, sash and my whole family got to take lots of pictures! I had a bunch of people sign my banner which was fun. It means a lot to me to know that younger girls have come up to me and said ‘Hey, I can do that now too! You’ve done it, so I’m excited to try to do it’. That’s always important to me to know that younger people are watching, and that anything I get to accomplish, they get to hope to accomplish too. (Being the first girl to get to 100 wins at Mid-Prairie) is a record that no one else can have. Which is fun. My name will be on the board officially as the only girl so far to have it. But I’m also excited to see other people get it as the years go, and to see how many more wins they can get than I have.”
Farrier made her third trip to State after finishing second at SuperRegionals. She finished her career on the medal stand, taking fifth place in Coralville following a 4-2 tournament to become the first Golden Hawk to win State hardware since wrestling became an Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union sanctioned sport.
