The American Legion Post 29 in Washington is hosting an essay contest. Area fifth-grade students are asked to write an essay focused on the topic ‘What the flag means to me.’ Entry forms are available at the schools and it is also open to home-schooled students. The winner will be selected on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Blair House.

Last year, the winner was Elian Ramirez of St. James.
