Property owners should take note that the second half of real estate and mobile home taxes must be paid this month to avoid a penalty. Washington County Treasurer Jeff Garrett explains that taxes were due March 1st, and must be paid by March 31st to avoid a penalty. Beginning April 1st, a penalty of 1.5% per month will be attached, and are rounded to the nearest whole dollar.

Garrett states that in order to reduce wait times, payments can be made through the mail, paid online at www.iowatreasurers.org, or put in the drop box on the west side of the Washington County Courthouse.

Payments should include the statement coupons.

In order to avoid a delinquent publication, taxes must be paid by May 29th and those that remain unpaid on June 16th will be offered in the annual tax sale.
