The Columbus Wildcats are ready to get a new girls’ track and field season underway. While there were no state qualifiers for Columbus last season, young talent emerged like now-sophomore Bella Forbes, who picked up a number of medals in the shot put toss in her debut season, including finishing second at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference Championships.

Junior Kymila Bacon is also back for the Wildcats after a silver medal at the conference meet in the 200-meter dash, while sophomore Iris Garza is expected to again be a consistent contender in the distance races. Columbus begins the girls’ track season today with the Dickinson Relays at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Rapids.
