Continued enhancements are coming to one of the most used recreation areas in Washington County. The Brinton Timber Preserve northwest of Brighton has seen renewed interest and visitors over the last few seasons according to Washington County Conservation Executive Director Zach Rozmus. Activities at the park include hiking, equestrian trails and more. In response to the increased traffic, and donations from the Brinton family, recent facility improvements on the grounds have included installation of a new latrine. Rozmus spoke recently with KCII News about the scheduled improvements this season. “Over the last several years, we have had a member of the Brinton family, who’s been a generous donor to us so we’ve been trying to make some enhancements to that park because, I think we maybe don’t always do the best job of flying the flag on this, but that’s probably one of our most traveled parks that we manage in Washington County. We have a lot of hikers, equestrian trails, mushroom season is always crazy down there. This year, we’re going to utilize an opening where, during one of the ice storms we had some dead-fall from some trees and we’re going to repurpose it into a shelter location for a couple of picnic tables, so when individuals are coming out to the park they have a spot to sit down and have lunch or dinner. We also have a lot of campers that stay there overnight.”

The Brinton Timber Preserve is a Washington County Conservation Park that includes a portion of the Skunk River and lies five miles north of Lake Darling and five miles northwest of Brighton.
