The Columbus Wildcats had arguably the best girls’ basketball season in school history this winter, and after winning their first-ever conference championship, six players receive all-conference honors in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference.

That includes senior forward Lily Coil, who is not only a unanimous first-team choice but is also named the Super Conference North Player of the Year. Coil led Columbus with nearly 15-and-a-half points and 8.5 rebounds per game and also collected just under four steals per contest for a dominant defensive squad.

Point guard Ariana Vergara was another big piece to a Columbus defense that surrendered less than 35 points per game, leading the Super Conference North in steals and averaging over 4.5 thefts a game. The senior also averaged 10 points, five rebounds and 3.5 assists on her way to a unanimous first-team selection.

Junior Isabel Rendon gets a second-team nod after posting 11 points and 2.5 steals per game and leading the Wildcats in shooting percentage. Frannie Sosa also makes the second team in her senior season after averaging better than two steals a game.

Honorable mentions go to seniors Aracely Garza and Madeleine Howell, who helped Columbus go 14-2 on their way to winning the conference. Wildcats head coach Kasey Keltner is voted the Super Conference North Coach of the Year after guiding the program to an overall record of 18-5.
