Drought conditions in Iowa showed some improvement from last week to this week. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, at this time 1.3 percent of the state is in severe drought, 56.4 percent is in moderate drought, and 79 percent is abnormally dry. Last week nearly 73 percent of the Hawkeye State was in moderate drought.

Conditions are less severe than they were at this time last year when over 20 percent of Iowa was in extreme drought and 56.4 percent was in severe drought.

Currently, Washington, Jefferson, Henry, and Keokuk counties are not experiencing drought conditions, while just the far southeast corner of Louisa County is abnormally dry. The northern portion of Johnson County is abnormally dry, and Iowa County is experiencing both abnormally dry and moderate drought conditions.
