If you’re drinking and driving, luck won’t be on your side this St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Local law enforcement including the Washington, Louisa and Henry County Sheriff’s Offices have plans to step up enforcement to combat drunk driving. The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau in their “Luck of the Irish Won’t Save You in a Crash, Plan for a Sober Ride” enforcement weekend. Washington County is joining the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau’s “Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving” enforcement week March 13th through the 21st. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has plans for increased patrols through the Holiday.
If your plans include drinking for the holiday, make sure they also include a sober ride. Last March, the Iowa Department of Transportation reported 26 traffic fatalities on Iowa roadways, 38% of those involved impairment.
